Flower Show Cancelled

SOUTHPORT FLOWER SHOW CANCELLED

Southport Flower Show organisers have announced the disappointing news that the 2020 show has been cancelled.

IMG_20200327_160647The COVID-19 pandemic has led to events with large public gatherings being cancelled throughout the whole country and the Southport Flower Show is no exception.

It is therefore with regret that the organisers have announced the cancellation of the 2020 Southport Flower Show which was due to be held 20th-23rd August.

Chair of the Board Max Steinberg CBE said

“We have closely monitored the situation over the past few weeks and it has now become clear that we now have no other option but to cancel the show this year. The first consideration must be the health and wellbeing of everyone involved in the show, staff, volunteers, visitors, exhibitors and traders. The show has become a much-loved fixture in the horticultural calendar and in Southport/Liverpool City Region’s summer events programme and the decision to cancel has been taken with a heavy heart. The safety of all of those who support the show is of paramount importance to us and we believe this to be the only course of action as we work through this pandemic.”

This will be the first time since the Second World War that there has not been a show in Southport and it is a huge disappointment to the management team who work so hard to make this event happen...

Get Creative

Freedom to get creative!

The competition is for paintings, drawings, prints (not reproductions), photography, textiles, sculpture or mixed media. Or any form of artwork you can come up with. However, we do ask that colouring in outlines printed or drawn by someone else is not submitted. Adults may give encouragement but must not have a hands-on role in creating the artwork.

The Atkinson may reject entries that it considers are inappropriate for any reason. Only original works will be accepted or copies that are clearly referenced either in the image or through the title, e.g. People Inspired by L.S. Lowry.

Prizes

The artworks will be reviewed by a panel appointed by the Atkinson. All works are judged on individual merit and the judges’ decision is final. No correspondence or discussion will be entered into. Winners will be announced on Thursday 28 May.

Winners will receive arts vouchers to be redeemed online.

Open Art Exhibition 2020

Sefton Open is an annual exhibition.

From  Saturday 18 April 2020  - Saturday 6 June 2020

The Sefton Open is an annual exhibition celebrating the creativity and artistic talent across the borough of Sefton.

For the first time, The Atkinson is pleased to be showcasing this year’s Sefton Open in a digital exhibition.

The call for artists was open to all practitioners who live, work or were educated in Sefton. Artists were invited to submit one digital photograph of their artwork, with all practices welcomed, including ceramics, sculpture, painting, textiles and photography.

Stephen Whittle (Principal Manager, Museum, Gallery & Operations) said:

‘It’s great to see that people across Sefton are still creating such wonderful and thought-provoking artworks. Even though our Borough of Culture celebrations have been curtailed for now, the fantastic response we have had from people right across the borough demonstrates how important cultural activity still is in keeping us connected.’

The exhibition is supported by The Atkinson’s longstanding partner, Southport Palette Club, as well as many other local groups, each showcasing their skill and artistry.

Jemma Tynan (Exhibitions and Learning Officer) said:

‘It is very exciting to launch the Sefton Open Exhibition online and connect our community and the wider world with the wonderful talent of Sefton artists during this time.’

Selected artworks are available to purchase through The Atkinson and the Own Art Scheme.

VE day 75th Celebrations

VE Day 75th Celebrations Cancelled.

Ve-day-300x157It is with huge regret and sadness,  we have to advise you :

The VE day 75th Celebrations will NOT be going ahead on Saturday 9th May, in Formby Village.

This event is now CANCELLED.

The committee have been following government legislations closely , as we all have, and realise this decision is now completely out of our hands.
The current circumstances are unprecedented and the safety of everyone, including the older patrons, is of paramount importance.

We will be rescheduling for a future date, in the same format, however we are uncertain when this may be.
However, we WILL return and hold this commemorative event , as soon as it is safe to do so.

Please keep some of the WARTIME SPIRIT. Look out for your neighbours, friends and family, especially the older generation, if they do not have anyone to help them.

Keep the same resilience that was shown in wartime..and we will come through these challenging times.

The committee wish to thank everyone for their support with this event, and hope you will support us when we reschedule our future date.

Take care everyone.

Thank you
Tracy
