I don't know about you but last night I was moved to tears as all our neighbours applauded and whooped to show how they value all our NHS staff.

And here I know this video from LFC will tickle my NHS Consultant Doctor, she's a great fan along with her sister.

Coronavirus (Covid-19) stops hospital visits

Coronavirus (Covid-19) puts a stop to hospital visiting.

To protect patients, staff and the community, Southport and Ormskirk hospitals are stopping patient visiting from tomorrow (Mar 26). This follows the latest Government Covid-19 advice restricting social contact and unnecessary travel.

The decision comes after earlier restrictions imposed on 18 March by the hospitals which limited visiting to one hour a day.

Families and friends of patients are now asked not to visit hospital other than by arrangement. Visits will be permitted in exceptional circumstances on an individual basis which will be agreed with the nurse in charge of the ward.

Separate arrangements will apply to the following areas:

  • Maternity and women in labour – one birthing partner per patient
  • Child inpatients – one carer per child

Chief Executive Trish Armstrong-Child said: “This is not a decision we have taken lightly but it is in line with the Government’s instructions on Tuesday to minimise social contact during the current situation.

“Please consider other ways of speaking with your loved ones, such as by phone or video calling.”

The Trust is also exploring other opportunities to support inpatients and families keep in touch.

Champion News
I'm sure this news will be widely regretted but understood here in Formby.

Dear Reader/Advertiser,

As you are aware, the government has issued strict new measures in trying to minimise the spread of Coronavirus in the community.

The Champion, therefore, has no alternative but to responsibly follow those measures and so, with immediate effect, we are ceasing publication of Champion Newspaper titles for the time being.

However, we intend to remain very much active in the communities of Sefton and West Lancashire and, with that in mind, we would like to inform all our readers and advertisers that we shall continue to have an important presence on social media platforms both on our website at and on the Champion Newspapers Facebook page, where you can find all your local news and more.

Thank you for your understanding of the situation with regards to the temporary non-publication of our Champion titles and although, regrettably, they won’t be dropping through your letterbox in the coming weeks, we are still very much around as we have been for the past 26 years.

So, if you have anything you feel might be of interest to our news team, let us know at or call us on 01704 392400.

We look forward to your calls.

Lyndsey Naylor
Managing Director

I suppose it was always a question of when and not if.

If you needed confirmation of the importance of the 'lockdown', this must be it. Taking care of yourself is taking care of others.
